Renowned Photographer Offers OVERTURE Use of Photos Documenting Global Refugee Crises for “Humanitarian Tuesdays” Facebook Project and Beyond

New York, June 21, 2016 – Digital Humanitarian™ Organization OVERTURE announces a partnership with international photojournalist Jodi Hilton for Facebook project: “Humanitarian Tuesdays.” Hilton – whose photo reporting credits include Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, National Geographic.com, Public Radio International, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Der Spiegel, and Vice France – has partnered with OVERTURE to use her photos for social media (and websites, presentations, etc.) to further its mission to help solve worldwide humanitarian issues, including the staggering challenges for refugees. Humanitarian Tuesday (akin to Throwback Thursdays) will be a movement encouraging Facebook users to share OVERTURE posts and comment about humanitarian topics.

Explains OVERTURE founder Donnovan Andrews: “We’re so excited to be working with someone of Jodi’s talent, compassion and insight into the global refugee crisis. The compelling images she captures so clearly tell the story we’re trying to share: people are suffering and Digital Humanitarian™ efforts can make a difference. We’re creating Humanitarian Tuesdays to elevate the conversations about worldwide humanitarian efforts. With all that goes on with political races and the stresses of our daily lives, I think people tend to forget about the millions of people needlessly suffering worldwide. This is an effort to showcase the lives of refugees and reveal that they use the very same technologies most others do every day. I know our work with Jodi is really going to raise awareness and hopefully inspire others to do the same and give back.”

Jodi Hilton presently covers Turkey and the Balkans, and has worked in the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. Her recent projects have included photo documentation of Afghan and Syrian refugees in Greece, and Syrian refugee camps in Turkey. When asked why she committed to OVERTURE, Jodi responded, “I’m impressed with OVERTURE’s approach of broking partnerships and ideas with leaders in business, media and at NGOs to develop tech that can truly help people. Not only that, they’re going to organize distribution of these tech solutions, which is a critical component that’s often not thought out. It’s one thing to have ideas, but actually bringing big, global ideas to fruition is going to be a huge victory. Humanitarian Tuesdays is a small piece of the puzzle that will hopefully engage the public, too. I just realized, our partnership comes on the heels of World Refugee Day (June 20)… good timing!”

OVERTURE works to unite the currently disparate efforts of socially-responsible international tech, media and governmental organizations, and NGOs: by bringing the right decision-makers together and fostering partnerships that enable the idea-generation, tech development, funding and distribution needed to enact global change. To foster coalitions and action, OVERTURE will host periodic, invitation-only events in NY and London; staff is in the midst of planning the organization’s inaugural annual event, “The Forum,” slated for fall 2016.
